Places are still available for the undernoted events:

A visit has been arranged to the new Recycling Centre on the Altens East Industrial estate. The visit has been arranged for Thursday 27th July with a 2.00pm start. Burgess and partners are invited. The visit will last approx. an hour with an introduction as to how the facility operates followed by a tour. Due to the nature of the facility and the fact that it will be in full operation when the tour takes place, it is a requirement that the following protective clothing is worn: Hard Hat, Hi-Vis Jacket, Shoes/boots with steel toecaps, gloves and goggles. These can be provided for the visit but if you can bring any items you may have with you on the list please advise when booking. Also if you require boots/shoes please advise when booking size required. There is no cost for this event.

We have organised a visit to The Rowett Institute is the UK’s leading centre for nutrition research and innovation on Wednesday 23 August. This is an opportunity to visit the Rowett’s recently-opened state-of-the art building at Foresterhill, fascinating history, of the Institute, and there will also be the opportunity to tour the building and visit the Human Nutrition Unit, the best of its kind in the UK.

Arrival : Time 18.30: (Car parking at Foresterhill)

Introduction to Rowett, past and present, Seminar Room. + 30 minutes: Free wander into atrium – viewing artefacts, artworks, videos. Guided tours (groups of ten) round the building, visiting Human Nutrition Unit (where we undertake all our dietary studies with volunteers). Groups free to depart after tours – end of visit 1 ½ – 2 hours, depending on number of tours. Burgesses and partners are invited. Cost of event £5.00 which will include tea/coffee/biscuits and a small donation.

This years Burgess of Guild golf competition will be held at The Mackenzie Championship Course at Hazlehead Golf Club on the afternoon of Wednesday 20th September. We hope to book first tee off around 1.00pm.

The cost will be £38 per adult / £28 per adult with Access to Leisure (A2L) including a meal after at the Park Café in Hazelhead.

“Giacomo & Glover” is a new play written by Fellow Burgess and playwright, Mike Gibb, whose earlier works include the likes of Mother of All the Peoples, Doorways in Drumorty, Outlander, Five Pound & Twa Bairns, Clarinda and the Piper Alpha commemorative play, Lest We Forget.

This will be performed for Burgesses and their guests in the Town & County Hall on Thursday 28th September at 7.00 pm, buffet included the cost will be £10pp.

This one-act play is part of a longer-length performance and therefore the other part, “Giacomo & Glover: Part 2 – The Road to Turndot” will be performed at the same venue on 27th February, 2018, again at a  cost of £10pp.     Burgesses and guests are welcome at both performances.

Join fellow Burgess Dr Chris Croly, Public Engagement with Research Officer at the University of Aberdeen to explore Aberdeen’s commemorative plaques. 2017 is Scotland year of history, heritage and archaeology join us in this talk to learn what is important and unique about Aberdeen’s heritage and discover all about our important people and places.

The event will take place at Aberdeenshire Cricket Club, Mannofield, on Thursday 26th October and will commence at 7.00pm. A buffet will be served. The event is open to Burgesses, partners and friends. Cost of the event will be £11.50.

Our Annual Quiz is at the Aberdeenshire Cricket Club on Monday 27th November with a 7.00pm start.  We have once again engaged Past Dean of Guild Fred Dalgarno as Quiz Master, and teams of up to 4 people can take part.  Cost is £11.50pp which includes buffet.    Burgesses, partners and friends welcome.
