Visit to Grape and Grain Wine Bar

Garry Stevens No Comments

We are delighted that following an invitation from fellow Burgess Jeanette Forbes, we are invited to attend an evening at her new exclusive Wine/Gin bar Grape & Grain, in Thistle Street.

The event will be from 6.30pm on Wednesday 1st August, and Jeanette will share the journey for Grape and Grain and will also speak about the number of challenges she and her team had to encounter to get this establishment open.

With this being a gift to the City,  Jeanette thought it would be nice to share it with the Burgesses so we know the history and what each design element means and then, for Burgesses attending who will not be driving you can enjoy a Wine or a Gin and Tonic or for those driving a Seedlip Gin which has no alcohol but tastes just like the real thing.

The Grape & Grain recently won an award for Best New Operator at the British Institute of Innkeepers Dinner in Glasgow, beating off some stiff competition across Scotland.

Cost of the event will be £10 which will include a glass of wine/gin or soft drink, and a donation to a charity of Jeanette’s choice. Burgesses and guests are invited to attend.

If you wish to attend please email clerk Garry Stevens at – clerk@aberdeenburgesses.com

Payment can be made by Cheque made payable to Burgesses of Guild of the City of Aberdeen, and sent to Garry Stevens, Clerk to the Burgesses, 6 Craigarbel Crescent , Inverbervie, Montrose, DD10 0SJ or via Online banking to Account number 50325609, Sort Code 826011

Changes to General Data Protection Regulation

Garry Stevens No Comments

Dear Burgesses

I’m certain you are all aware of the pending change in the law which introduces GDPR (general data protection regulation) and no doubt you will already have received similar messages to this from various sources.

As a not-for-profit organisation the Burgesses of Guild does not have to be registered, however I believe we retain a duty to protect any data held in respect of our members.   Thus, I am declaring to you now that as Clerk to the Burgesses I hold on your behalf the following personal information in a secure manner including password protection:

– your year of admission

– your name

– your home address

– your telephone number(s)

– your email address

– your occupation

I don’t think we have a problem in respect of the changes in GDPR, but it was felt best to check with all Burgesses and give you the opportunity to confirm with me if you do NOT wish me to hold this information on your behalf.

Please do not reply if you are happy that I hold this information on your behalf, and to avoid filling up my inbox  with ‘OK’ messages, please just respond if you do NOT wish me to use the held information to communicate with you (in which case you will NOT receive any further communications from me about the Burgesses).

Please respond to clerk@aberdeenburgesses  if you do not want your information held

 Many Thanks

Inchgarth Community Centre Visit Change

Garry Stevens No Comments

Dear Fellow Burgesses, in agreement with Paul O’Connor MBE we have postponed
the planned visit to the successful Inchgarth Community Centre on 22nd May
in favour of an OPEN INVITATION to all Burgesses and their Guests to attend
the AGM of the Centre on Friday 29th June starting at 6:30 pm.

Inchgarth is the cities busiest, best equipped, and most successful centre
situated in the heart of Garthdee, serving the community and supporting the
city.  With a tremendous programme of 150 sessions of activity for all ages
each week and recognised by presentation of the Queen’s Award For Voluntary
Service in 2017, the highest Award available for such an organisation, this
is a centre delivering for the people and making a difference.

‘This Is Our City’, we want to support such local initiatives and
enterprises, the AGM is much more than a business meeting (the business
element is short and efficient), it is an evening of entertainment and
presentation of the Margaret E. Morrison Spirit of the Community Awards.
It is undoubtedly something different.    Please do come along and helpfully
please inform Garry Stevens of your attendance.

clerk@aberdeenburgesses.com

Thank-you.

Lord Dean of Guild

This is Our City

Burgess Logo         Our City Logo

Many thanks to all who attended the ‘This is our City’ dinner at the Beach Ballroom on 27th February.

On a wintry night, it was a fabulous evening highlighting some of the many positives in Aberdeen.  This Is Our City and the dinner was a great reminder that Aberdeen is a proud, robsut and successful city.

The event was also the launch of a new civic pride initiative entitled ‘We’re For Aberdeen’.

In keeping with the Burgesses motto of ‘For Aberdeen’, this is a planned civic pride initiative as a ‘gift’ to the City of Aberdeen from the Burgesses.  The idea is a rally cry to celebrate what is good in Aberdeen and to encourage a more positive view of the city.

The principles of the initiative are that it will be an external expression of support to the city of Aberdeen, something that can be picked up by all parts of the community and eventually to create an independent civic pride initiative with its own brand.

We need your support to turn this idea into a reality; to develop the idea further and determine how the initiative might be rolled out across the city.

For more information on this initiative please contact Garry Stevens at clerk@aberdeenburgesses.com and indicate your interest as follows:

  • I am keen to join the working party to develop the idea further
  • I / my company are interested in providing financial support
  • I / my company are willing to suggest an initiative or offer of support
  • I’d like to keep up to date with the initiative – please add me you your database
Yours sincerely,
